January Troubles

This post is way not quilting or art related, but I needed to get it out anyway. For the past year & a half, a farm we sold went into foreclosure, another lender filed the original action against the borrower, the same guy I sold the farm to. We, brother & I, have been led along by this guy forever it seems. We offered him a settlement at a reduced price just to get rid of him. The closing was supposed to happen today, I was relieved & happy that it was finally at an end. Then my lawyer calls late yesterday to say the deal fell through- nothing like short notice, you know. Anyway, at this time, our lawyer is filing papers with the court to have the property sold at auction. Its the only way we'll ever get our money out of him. The past few months have been an emotional rollercoster. Even though it will take a few additional months to wrap this thing up, the little delay will be worth the wait if we get our money & get rid of this pesky man, whom I wish I'd never heard of now. Okay, I've said my peace & thank you for letting me do it. I just hope my mortgage company will be as lenient as you dear reader, because my home is on the line because of this fool who has not paid as he was required to, now the farm is being sold out from under him & I hope he learns his lesson about biting off more than he can chew.

Opening a Small Business

My daughter & I decided to do quilting & embroidery for others from home. I have the machines for both. She also makes stuffed toys, knitted, crocheted & sewn. We can do king sized quilts, monogramming & any embroidery motif I can scan into the computer, or draw, then scan in. With a special needs child in the house, we need something we can do from home. Spread the word, if you will. Email me privately for more info.

Horse Mania 2010

I've finished the drawings for horse mania, a public art project for the Equestrian Games. All 6 of the designs I'm submitting are based on quilts. I will post the designs after I hear from the committee, one way or the other. I don't think I should post them before then, it'd wouldn't be very professional of me. I'm working on a circle quilt inspired by one Karen Stone had at the Houston show. Its in the early stages. I've also taken a new interest in learning how to operate my embroidery software. My daughter & I are trying to get an embroidery & quilting business off the ground. We'll see how that goes. More later . . .

My Inner Animal

This is my inner animal, anyway sometimes I feel like this -LOL. The little (8 1/2 x 11) quilt is an entry into a challenge in a quilting magazine. We'll see if I get in.

I'm currently working on a wall hanging quilt in satin with embroidered motifs in the centers of each block. It's meant to be a more formal piece for my dining room. I'll post pics when its finished.

New Colored Pencil Technique

This is a painted quilt I made using Aussie artist's Kim Bradley's technique of mixing watercolor pencils with fabric medium & painting on fabric.

First Commissioned Quilt

I recently finished my first ever commissioned quilt. Its a full size, southwest design. I got the commission a week before Christmas and had to deliver it on Jan.7th, that's only 3 weeks to design, produce, quilt & finish it, but I made the deadline with time to spare. Here are the pics. The middle image is Hopi & the danvers are on each end of the quilt with the dancers images being quilted in the "drop" that goes over the edge of the bed.>
